TOKYO-Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. announced today that its consolidated third-quarter revenue totaled 1.82 trillion yen for the current fiscal year ending March 31. Revenue for the nine months of the year amounted to 5.376 trillion yen.
There are no comparable figures for the previous fiscal year as this is the first year Nissan is reporting quarterly results.
On a volume basis, Nissan's sales in the third quarter totaled 719,696 units, up 11.6% from a year ago, due to rising sales in all of the company's major markets.
In the U.S., sales rose 15.3% to 198,946 units helped by the launch of the Quest minivan and the Pathfinder Armada sports-utility vehicle produced at Nissan's new Canton, Mississippi plant. Sales in Japan grew 3.6% to 179,070 helped by the popularity of the Cube brand, including the Cube Cubic. Meanwhile, sales in Europe climbed 15.1% to 132,965 as demand for the new Micra (known as March in Japan) and the X-TRAIL remained strong. Sales in Nissan's other markets, including China, together advanced 13.5% to 208,715.
Nissan also confirmed it is on track to meet its forecasts for this fiscal year announced last November. The company has forecast a group net profit of 495 billion, an operating profit of 820 billion yen and sales of 7.450 trillion yen. Nissan will release its fiscal year 2003 results on April 26.
