YOKOHAMA, Japan (March 7, 2014) - Nissan Motor Corporation Vice Chairman Toshiyuki Shiga was awarded the Top Executive Award / Individual Prize at the 2014 J-Win Diversity Awards. The annual J-Win awards are presented by the Japan Women's Innovative Network (NPO J-Win), a nonprofit organization. Nissan won first prize at the 2013 J-Win awards and this is the first time an executive from the company has won the Individual Prize.
The J-Win Diversity Awards' Top Executive Award / Individual Prize is given to a company executive who has championed diversity and inclusion initiatives throughout a company which views diversity and inclusion as a management strategy, and has helped to transform the way it does business.
Vice Chairman Shiga said: “Nissan established an in-house team to promote diversity in 2004. We have been actively promoting the participation of female leaders for ten years now. As a result, the ratio of female managers at Nissan has more than quadrupled, from 1.6 percent in 2004 to 6.8 percent, and the number of women in senior managerial positions has increased to 4.7 percent."
“We are also improving the way we work. This year Nissan launched an enhanced work-from-home system for employees who are working and raising children or caring for family members, and which every employee can also use. This flexible way of working improves the quality and management of what we do. I am delighted to receive the J-Win award on behalf of all employees involved in promoting diversity."
Nissan aims to deepen each employee's understanding of diversity in order to maximize the value it brings to customers. The company will continue its efforts to grow sustainably while promoting diversity and inclusion as strengths that drive greater competitiveness.
* Diversity and inclusion refers to "accepting diverse people and utilizing their capabilities." Mutual understanding and respect can maximize the potential, create innovation, and promote continuous corporate growth.
