Yokohama — Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. will hold an exhibition along with a series of artist talks and tours starting on November 14 as part of the Nissan Art Award 2015. The exhibition (announced in June) will showcase new works by the seven finalists selected earlier this year from 33 candidates and will be held at BankART Studio NYK in Yokohama.
The exhibition works, from artists who over the past two years have gained particular attention, display a sharp sensibility in their expression of various aspects of contemporary society. With the support of Nissan, the finalists, Sayaka Akiyama, Tsuyoshi Hisakado, Takashi Ishida, Takahiro Iwasaki, Futoshi Miyagi, Yuko Mohri and Tomoko Yoneda, will present new works in the form of installation, sculpture, video and photography. The artist talks and tours will be held on selected dates from November 14 to December 26. From the start of the exhibition until November 23, visitors will be able to vote for their favorite artist, with the results determining the winner of the Audience Award.
The Grand Prix winner will be selected by international jury members on November 24 at the exhibition venue and will be announced along with the winner of the Audience Award. The Grand Prix trophy, designed by product-designer Keita Suzuki, will draw inspiration from the creativity of the artists and will aim to express the unbroken chain of creation. It will be produced together with other artisans and combine state-of-the-art technology and traditional Japanese craft.

Nissan Art Award 2015 award ceremony and reception
An invitation-only award ceremony and reception is to be held at the venue on November 24. Attendees will include members of the press, artists, the seven finalists, the international jury members and Carlos Ghosn, President and CEO of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.
Award information will be announced on November 25 via press release and the official website.

Sayaka Akiyama (Born in 1971 in Hyogo, lives and works in Kanagawa)
Based on her experience of living and walking in different places, Akiyama creates works that explore the footprint of time by making a line of her movements with thread through fabric. In her solo show "MOZU-NO-HAYANIE" held in Shanghai (2014), she broke new ground with an installation that laid bare the self and its changes on a daily basis.
Tsuyoshi Hisakado (Born in 1981 in Kyoto, lives and works in Kyoto)
Hisakado produces work that combines sculpture and sound. Focusing on various phenomena and histories of places and objects, he manipulates sound, light and plastic forms to create spaces that generate memories and stories. In "still moving", an exhibition held in connection with PARASOPHIA: Kyoto International Festival of Contemporary Culture (2015), he used a former elementary school classroom to present an installation that evoked memories of the site. He was the recipient of Kyoto City Special Bounty Program for Art and Culture for fiscal year 2015.
Takashi Ishida (Born in 1972 in Tokyo, lives and works in Tokyo)
Active as a painter and film artist, Ishida focuses on the process of painting a picture and sublimates his actions using video media to produce works that render traces of body and time. His high-profile solo exhibition at Yokohama Museum of Art (2015) consisted of a large-scale presentation of his artistic output, following the trajectory of his creative activities from early works displayed for the first time to his latest video work.
Takahiro Iwasaki (Born in 1975 in Hiroshima, lives and works in Hiroshima)
Taking steel electric towers, construction sites, contemporary everyday landscapes and historical buildings such as Itsukushima Shrine and the Temple of the Golden Pavilion, Iwasaki re-configures structures into complex, sculptural works, expressing the world in a variety of scales. In 2015 at Asia Society, New York, he presented a new work in which the unwound thread of a kimono was used to construct a landscape. He has also held numerous solo exhibitions in Japan, at museums such as Kurobe City Art Museum and Kurumaya Museum of Art, Oyama City.
Futoshi Miyagi (Born in 1981 in Okinawa, lives and works in Tokyo)
After moving to New York, Miyagi started creating artwork whilst working in a bookstore specializing in art-related books. Turning to his own memories and experience, he develops photography, video, objects and text and a range of other works that address nationality, ethnicity and identity. In "Time of Others" held at Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (2015) he exhibited a video work from "American Boyfriend," a research project initiated in 2012.
Yuko Mohri (Born in 1980 in Kanagawa, lives and works in Tokyo)
Mohri produces installations in which invisible energies such as magnetism, gravity and light are made tangible by creating assemblages of reconfigured everyday items and mechanical parts in changing environments. In recent years she has presented site-specific works at Sapporo International Art Festival 2014 and Yokohama Triennale 2014 that excavate subtle energies lingering in sites and objects. She lived and worked in New York as a grantee of the Asian Cultural Council until September 2015.
Tomoko Yoneda (Born in 1965 in Hyogo, lives and works in London)
Through careful research of histories and places, and while assigning to photography the fundamental role of recording the times, Yoneda not only addresses subjects in reality but also documents the memories that permeate her subjects. In recent years, she has created works addressing the history of modernization in Japan and the world. Receiving high acclaim for an exhibition that toured the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography and Himeji City Museum of Art, she was awarded the Art Encouragement Prize for New Artists awarded by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in 2014.
