Nissan March Cup in Colombia

BOGOTA, Colombia – Juan Felipe García celebrated his victory as champion of the Nissan March Cup after an exhilarating final in the Tocancipá Race Track in Colombia, where great battles were witnessed under the rain until the checkered flag.

The Nissan March Cup Final was hard fought and marked with dramatic changes in weather. Juan Felipe García gave a solid performance in qualifying, followed by Mauricio Nolivos and the group of novice drivers Cordero, Hernández, Jiménez and Fernández.

The first round was dominated by García, but the so called "breakout drivers" fought from start to finish for the second place; the driver in fifth place was less than a second away from the runner-up.

It rained during the second round, and Nissan's car with Sebastián 'Tatán' Mejía behind the wheel set the pace. Camilo Fernández got back in the game and Iván Hernandez completed the fastest lap in the series.

In the final round, it seemed that García had picked up the pace, but Nissan's strategy was clever; its car overtook the leader and stayed ahead of the pack until the end, giving "Tatán" Mejía his second victory on a wet track.

With an impressive performance, Juan Felipe García showcased the experience he gained during his first season and took the trophy of the Nissan March Cup's second season. His accomplishments consisted of three victories, five pole positions and three fast laps.

"I feel proud to have won this title, which is a milestone in my racing career," said García. "I want to thank my family, friends and Nissan for all their support."

'Tatán' Mejía surprised everyone by showing he knows how to take the March to the limit in difficult conditions. He's made himself known with two victories and five podium appearances, which was enough to take the season's second place.

"I ended my second season as the runner-up," said Tatán. "It wasn't easy to make it this far, and I'm incredibly happy and grateful to Nissan for giving me this great opportunity and for believing in me to represent them in this tournament for the second time."

Meanwhile, the novice and runner-up of the karts championship Iván Hernandez showcased his speed and had the fastest lap time in three different occasions. After adding all the points, he reached the third place of the leaderboard.

"Nissan wants to thank and congratulate all the drivers, families and fans that took part in this championship," said Juan Carlos López, national marketing manager at Nissan Colombia. "The drivers' performances are solid proof that hard work, dedication and discipline deliver great results. Nissan hopes to be part of more initiatives like this one to support the new talents that will represent us in the future."
