CAIRO, Egypt – Reinforcing its commitment to the Egyptian market, Nissan Motor Egypt participated in the recent Africa Forum 2017, held under the auspices of the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi.

"Africa 2017" – organized by the Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation of Egypt, and the COMESA Regional Investment Agency (RIA) – was held in December at Sharm El Sheikh. The objective was to nurture new partnerships between businesses, provide business owners the opportunity to engage with political leaders, and appeal to investors who are interested in improving the African economy.

Isao Sekiguchi, Nissan Motor Egypt's managing director, appeared in one of the panel discussions as a keynote speaker. Sekiguchi confirmed in his speech: "Nissan always reviews its business expansion in order to reach its global ambitions, hence we are persistently working on Africa's expansion plan. Nissan has existed in Egypt since 2005, for twelve years, performing productively while overcoming challenges within the country. We continue to contribute to the Egyptian economy for future development."

Isao emphasized the fact that Nissan has a trusted relationship with the Egyptian government and that the close collaboration is vital to further development of the industry and economy.

Nissan Motor Egypt is one of the biggest Japanese investor in the country with a total investment of two billion Egyptian pounds. The company's contribution to the Egyptian economy and society is exhibited through the employment of 1,400 direct labor, additionally creating more than 4,500 job openings throughout its suppliers and dealerships throughout Egypt. This makes Nissan Motor Egypt one of the biggest contributors in the Made in Egypt initiative by locally producing and assembling its best-selling models, Sunny and Sentra.

In his speech, Sekiguchi also commented on Nissan's unwavering commitment towards the African continent – a vision that supports industrial growth through the Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi Alliance.

Nissan firmly believes in the potential of Africa, where the population is growing and the demand for mobility is on the rise. Having a production base in South Africa and Egypt is evidence of our commitment. Young entrepreneurs in Africa are coming up with innovative ideas that follow the latest trend in technology. However, Sekiguchi realistically commented that it will require private and public sectors to work even more closely together to unlock the potential that the continent bears.

"Introduction of electric vehicles Africa-wide is not a distant dream as we have already started in countries such as South Africa, and discussions are on-going with Morocco," said Sekiguchi. "Agreements on policies, long vision strategies and schemes with each government is key to when we can actually offer these products to our potential customers."
