BANGKOK – Nissan Motor (Thailand) Co., Ltd. recently sponsored 200 students in grades 10 and 11 from four secondary schools in Ayutthaya and Rayong, Thailand, to attend a hands-on three-day youth camp designed to build leadership skills that integrate STEM.
The camp is part of the Youth Leadership program, a partnership between Nissan, CARE International Japan, and the Raks Thai Foundation that aims to help some 1,200 students develop leadership skills through teamwork, planning, and leader/follower activities.
The students were divided into groups to work as a team, make plans and then role-play as a follower or a leader, and then present to the rest of the class. This will help these students apply what they have learned from these activities in future leadership and life situations. The program also brought STEM education to life at the camp and incorporated integrated STEM learning experiences through hands-on activities.
"In the past, the four components under STEM were taught separately, and students sometimes struggled to find the connections between these," said Sutirat Kojchasawad, Raks Thai's Program Officer. "This program aims to help students learn to integrate the four components into a single important discipline. Nissan's long-term commitment to youth education has been instrumental in driving this and has had a significant positive impact in these communities."
