BUENOS AIRES, Argentina - Nissan Argentina opened its new administrative offices in Cordoba Province. The event was attended by Provincial Governor Juan Schiaretti and CEO of Nissan Argentina Diego Vignati. The new offices will be occupied by the team that is already working in Cordoba on laying the foundations for the local manufacture of pickups from 2018. The project is now fully underway thanks to the US$600 million invested by the company. The new office will create 1000 new jobs and turn Nissan into an automotive terminal for the first time ever in Argentina.

During their visit, the provincial authorities and Nissan executives toured the new offices where production of the new Nissan line will be managed. Local suppliers, with whom Nissan has been developing this major industrial project, also attended the event. Attendees at the event saw the progress that's been made before production begins in 2018.

Three versions of Nissan pickups will be manufactured: Nissan Frontier in 2018, followed by the Renault Alaskan and a Daimler product, towards the end of the decade.

"Our project for the manufacture of the Nissan Frontier is going full speed ahead,"said Vignati. "With the opening of our new offices, the Nissan flag is now flying in Cordoba and underlines our commitment to Argentina, showing that once again we are a company that keeps its promises. Nissan's team of experts in several countries is highly committed to delivering the project at the highest quality of manufacturing, from Cordoba to all of Latin America."

Japanese origin
As a tribute to the company's Japanese origin, inauguration of the new offices included the Japanese Daruma ceremony, the "doll of purposes" – which represents the hard work, perseverance and tenacity needed to achieve targets. The Daruma is handmade. Its eyes are left completely white. When a target is set, just one eye is painted as a symbol of beginning, and as a reminder to achieve the target set successfully. Once the target has been achieved, the other eye of the doll is painted as a sign of gratitude and satisfaction for having reached the finish line.

Vignati and Schiaretti painted the first eye of the Daruma to signal the official start of the project that Nissan Argentina is performing in the province.

Important aspects of Nissan's project in Cordoba
The new production line, part of the industrial project, is being installed under strict controls to guarantee the quality, reliability and durability for which Nissan is well known. Nissan has been on the pickup market for over 80 years and has sold more than 14 million pickups around the world, a sign of its competitiveness and experience.

Nissan announced in April 2015 that it was to manufacture Nissan Frontier pickups in Argentina, with an investment of US$600 million, with an annual production capacity of 70,000 Nissan, Renault and Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

Nissan changed its business model in September 2015 by becoming a direct affiliate instead of an importer to directly manage commercial operations and the local pickup production project. By doing this, Nissan gambled on Argentina's potential as a market and a future manufacturer of pickups. The company considers Argentina a key component of its long-term strategy for positioning itself amongst the top three vehicle manufacturers in the region.

Nissan's CEO, Hiroto Saikawa, met with the president of Argentina, Mauricio Macri, in Tokyo in May 2017 to discuss the progress in the investment needed for production in Cordoba.

Now, with the opening of its new offices in September 2017, Nissan is continuing with its investment and development policy in Argentina, with a view to commencing production in the second half of 2018.
