PREMIERE OF NISSAN QASHQAI AT SINGAPORE MOTORSHOW 2006

Singapore – Tan Chong Motor presents for the first time in Asia, a new compact crossover SUV, the all-new Nissan Qashqai (pronounced as “cash-kai”) at the Nissan Stand, Singapore Motorshow 2006. Also at the Show, Tan Chong will introduce a new variant named DS2 (Dynamic Series 2) to its existing lineup.

Qashqai
• First Asian appearance

Having made its global premiere at the Paris Motor Show in September, this is the first time that Nissan is presenting the Qashqai in Asia.

Said Mr A C Neo, Marketing Director of Tan Chong Motor Sales Pte Ltd, “We are happy to have secured the Qashqai for Singapore Motorshow so soon after its world debut in Paris. Qashqai is a genuine crossover SUV and perfectly represents Nissan’s shift in the expression of design, performance and functionality.”

The Qashqai caters to consumers looking for a refreshing and more dynamic design than that offered by a conventional mid-sized sedan, but are not attracted to the large, aggressive looks of a SUV.

The design of the Qashqai was led by Nissan Design Europe (NDE), with significant input from Nissan’s engineering base in Japan. The Qashqai is described as a crossover as it inhabits the area where passenger car attributes meet those of a 4x4. In terms of design, the top half of Qashqai is reminiscent of a dynamic car with a sleek, dynamic form that features a distinctive shoulder line, which rises at the rear – a design cue similar to that found in the Murano.

The lower portion of the car suggests SUV attributes of strength and solidity thanks to large, pronounced wheel arches, slightly elevated ground clearance and a purposeful stance.

The interior has been designed to give the driver a focused cockpit feeling, with a clear separation between them and their passenger. The deeply recessed instruments give a sporty feeling to the driving environment – a feeling reinforced by the raised central console. However, the front and passenger environments have been designed to feel airy, spacious and relaxing.

“Qashqai has the distinctive and athletic poise of a sporty hatch combined with the confident stance of a SUV. We are taking this opportunity to show the Qashqai at the Singapore Motorshow and gauge market response to such a distinctly styled model.” said Neo.

Driving Pleasure Concept
• Nissan smart innovations
• DS2 variants

Visitors to the Show will get to experience Nissan’s smart innovations, namely the touch-screen Smart Screen Navigation System with reverse camera, Intelligent Key System and Plasmacluster ion airconditioner, uniquely available as standard features in selected Nissan models.

Nissan’s driving pleasure concept, is our belief that all Nissan vehicles are made to ensure that the driver derives optimal enjoyment from driving any Nissan car. From exterior styling to a modern and comfortable interior, from technologies and innovative features, we do not overlook the details in our cars because we recognize that it’s these details, these little touches, that can provide a Nissan driver with the ultimate driving pleasure,” Neo commented.

Visitors to the Show can also view DS2 variants of Nissan’s existing lineup in Singapore. DS2 has been developed following the success of The Nissan Latio Dynamic Series (DS1) launched in September this year. All existing models will sport a refreshing exterior design with sporty accessories fitted, such as body kits and upsized alloy rims, etc. The car interiors will also be fitted with sporty leather seats to complete the whole new dynamic look. DS2 aims to deliver a new dimension to an enjoyable sporty driving experience.
