Nissan Middle East organizes Aqdar Drive Safely program

The event raises awareness around the dangers of using mobile phones while driving

DUBAI, UAE – Nissan Middle East has kicked off a campaign in major universities across the UAE to raise awareness around the dangers of using mobile phones while driving.

The first event, held at the American University of Sharjah, encouraged students to pledge not to use phones while on the road. With every pledge, students were provided the opportunity to add a picture of themselves to a Patrol Nismo that already included images of Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of State of Tolerance; and Major General Dr. Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary-General of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Head of the High Commission for the Khalifa Student Empowerment Program "Aqdar." Several high-profile police officers also took the pledge, an act that symbolizes a unified front to be agents of change.

The activation also involved students driving a golf cart through a crash course while texting, reminding them how difficult it is to mentally concentrate on both activities simultaneously.

This initiative was held as part of the Aqdar Drive Safely program, under the patronage of Lt. General His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the UAE, and in partnership with the Khalifa Empowerment Program for Students (Aqdar).

Under the main message of "choose the present, choose life," the program aims to inspire university students to become the agents of change in their communities by submitting ideas that creatively raise awareness and promote road safety in the form of either a Road Safety Campaign, a Road Safety Mobile Phone Application, or a Road Safety Sculpture.

The winners of the program will be given the opportunity to work with Nissan Middle East to transform their ideas into reality, as well as receive financial reward. For more information about Aqdar Drive Safely program, visit aqdardrivesafely.com.
