TOKYO (Oct. 11, 2007) - Nissan Motor Co. today announced it has been selected for the first time to be listed on the Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI), comprised of companies with advanced strategies and information disclosure regarding climate change.
Nissan and DaimlerChrysler (the corporation’s name at the time the index was released) were the only two automakers on the list.
“Being chosen for this list recognizes Nissan’s comprehensive environmental strategy outlined it in the ‘Nissan Green Program 2010’ announced late last year,” said Simon Sproule, Nissan’s Corporate Vice President, Global Communications and CSR. The NGP2010 is the company’s medium-term environmental action plan focused on minimizing CO2 emissions, reducing in other emissions and increasing the level of recycling throughout Nissan’s global operations.
The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is a global project which cooperates with institutional investors to promote corporate response to climate change through annual surveys of major companies worldwide. Organizations with excellent strategies and information disclosure are selected for the Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI).
About 2,400 companies worldwide were surveyed this year, including the world’s top 500 companies in terms of aggregate value (FT500 stocks). Out of the FT500, 68 companies were selected for CDLI inclusion.
Nissan regards environmental matters as one of the key areas covered under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy and managed by the company’s CSR Steering Committee.
In addition to being named to the CDLI, Nissan also has maintained its position on the “FTSE4Good” index, a joint effort between the Financial Times of the United Kingdom and the London Stock Exchange. The “FTSE4Good” is a socially responsible investment index comprised solely of companies that demonstrate outstanding overall CSR performance.
