Nissan to re-inspect and resume registrations of vehicles in inventory in Japan, and re-inspect registered vehicles

YOKOHAMA, Japan – Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. will take the following actions with regard to vehicles in Japan that did not meet Japanese market requirements for final inspection:

Registered vehicles already sold

  • Nissan plans to submit a noncompliance recall report this week.
  • Re-inspection will be performed at Nissan dealership service centers throughout Japan.
  • Approximately 1,210,000 units produced between October 2014 and September 2017 will be subject to re-inspection.
  • The noncompliance recall will be carried out immediately after Nissan submits a recall report to Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport this week.

Unregistered vehicles

  • Re-inspection meeting the requirements of final inspection will be performed at Nissan dealership service centers throughout Japan.
  • Approximately 34,000 vehicles including OEM cars will be subject to re-inspection.
  • Registrations will be resumed following re-inspection, beginning Oct. 3, 2017.

A team that includes an independent third party is currently investigating the causes and measures to prevent recurrence.
Nissan regrets any inconvenience and concern this has caused to its valued customers in Japan. Nissan is taking proactive action to resolve this matter.
