Nissan production, sales and export results for October 2005

TOKYO (Nov. 25, 2005) - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., today announced production, sales and export results for October.

1. Production

Global production in October totaled 278,373 units, down 2.9% from the same month a year ago.

Domestic production fell 16.1% from a year ago to 102,112 units, due to slower sales of older models such as the X-TRAIL SUV and the Cube compact car.

Overseas production grew 6.8% to 176,261 units.

In the US, output increased 0.3% to 72,167 units amid rising production of the Altima mid-size sedan. The Quest minivan and the Frontier pickup were among the biggest decliners in terms of production. Production in Mexico fell 5.2% to 31,182 units due to slower sales of the Sentra compact sedan in the U.S.

In the UK, production dropped 3% to 25,798 units due to a decline in output of the Primera sedan and wagon. Output in Spain increased 33% to 19,630 units due to the solid performance of the new Pathfinder SUV and the new Navara pickup truck. Local production of both models began this year.

In general overseas markets, which exclude Japan, the US and Europe, production increased 46.6% to 27,484 units. In China, output increased 199.1% to 15,684 units due to the start of local production of the Tiida compact sedan and hatchback.

2. Sales

Domestic registrations in October fell 19.1% to 42,980 units, amid slower sales of the Cube compact car, as well as the Murano crossover SUV and Tiida compact sedan, both launched in the second half of last year.

Nissan’s market share of domestic registrations in October fell 2.9 percentage points from the previous year to 15.3%.

Nissan’s domestic sales in October, including minivehicles, fell 13.2% to 50,996 units. Its domestic market share of that market fell 1.9 percentage points to 11.9%.

US sales in October fell 16.5% from a year earlier to 72,279 units. Nissan channel sales declined 17.4% to 62,317 units amid slower sales of the Maxima sedan and Titan pickup truck. Infiniti channel sales fell 10.7% from the previous year to 9,962 units, amid slower sales of the FX crossover SUV. The M45 luxury sedan (Fuga in Japan), however, performed especially well. Sales in Canada dropped 22.8% to 4,683 units, while sales in Mexico fell 2.6% to 18,360 units.

Sales in Europe fell 34.4% from the previous year to 29,044 units amid slower sales of the Micra compact car (March in Japan) and the Primera sedan and wagon.

3. Exports from Japan

Nissan’s exports in October grew 0.6% from a year ago to 59,866 units.

Exports to North America rose 15.2% to 22,037 units due to increased shipments of the M45 luxury sedan. Exports to Europe dropped 51.8% to 6,320 units as a result of fewer shipments of the X-TRAIL SUV.

Exports to the Middle East jumped 109.0% to 13,916 units, helped by full-scale exports of the Tiida compact car. Exports to Asia rose 2.2% to 5,953 units. Exports to Latin America dropped 21.5% to 5,048 units due to a decline in shipments of the Pathfinder SUV.
