In the U.S., output increased 7.0% to 73,688 units due to strong sales of the Pathfinder and Armada sport utility vehicles. In Mexico, production jumped 37.4% to 36,508 units, propelled by brisk sales of the Sentra and Tsuru compact sedans.

In the U.K., production rose 15.9% to 17,491 units due to the solid performance of the Micra (March in Japan) compact car, while output in Spain decreased 1.7% to 3,915 units.

Production in general overseas markets (GOM), which exclude Japan, the U.S. and Europe, soared 82.4% to 27,382 units aided by robust sales of the Teana luxury sedan, the Tiida compact sedan and the Tiida hatchback.

Sales
Nissan's domestic registrations in August rose 14.4% from a year ago to 47,492 units. The solid performance of new models such as the revamped Serena minivan released in May, as well as the Note and Tiida compact cars, contributed to the rise. Nissan's share of the domestic registered vehicle market in August rose 2.6 percentage points to 19.2%.

Domestic sales, including minicars, for August increased 16.1% to 54,943 units, helped by the Otti minicar released in early June. Nissan's domestic share of that market grew 2.0 percentage points to 15.0%.

In the U.S., sales increased by 15.0% to 92,365 units, a record for that month. Nissan brand sales climbed 15.9% to 80,026, boosted by higher sales of the Pathfinder SUV and the Altima mid-sized sedan. Sales of Nissan's Infiniti luxury brand rose 9.3% to 12,339 units helped by robust sales of the M45 luxury sedan (Fuga in Japan), which went on sale in March.

Sales in Canada jumped 31.8% to 7,103 units.

In Europe, sales rose 13.0% to 35,849 units due to the solid performance of both the new Pathfinder SUV and the new Navara pickup truck.

Shipments to North America fell 28.8% to 12,759 units following the start of local production of the Pathfinder in the U.S. last September.

Exports to Europe dropped 10.8% to 8,026 units due to a decline in pickup exports accompanying the launch of local production of the new Navara pickup truck in Spain in May.

Shipments to Latin America jumped 47.0% to 7,482 units thanks to robust sales of the Frontier pickup truck.

Exports to Asia fell 25.2% to 4,828 units due to a decline in exports to Thailand.
