Nissan Publishes Winning Works From'28th Nissan Children's Storybook and Picture Book Grand Prix'

Books to be donated to public libraries in Japan

YOKOHAMA, Japan (Dec. 14, 2012) – Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced that it will publish two winning works from its 28th "Nissan Children's Storybook and Picture Book Grand Prix" competition that was held in 2011. Published by BL Publishing Co., Ltd., the books will go on sale at major bookstores in Japan.

The published books are "Guutara-dou wo Hajimemasu" (Starting the art of "being lazy") by Eiko Takishita and "Picchi to Rita – Mayonaka no saakasu" (Picchi and Rita – Midnight circus) by Takuma Nagao, winners of the Children's Storybook Grand Prize and Picture Book Grand Prize, respectively. " Guutara-dou wo Hajimemasu" was illustrated by Hiromi Ohnishi, a previous Special Prize winner in the Picture Book category.

Children's Storybook

As part of its donation program to promote children's literature, Nissan will donate books to 3,400 libraries across Japan and 700 local nursery schools and kindergartens located near Nissan offices. Beginning with the first Grand Prix in 1984, the company has donated more than 190,000 books nationwide, bringing the joy and educational value of reading to children of all ages.

Nissan also will donate these books to the Japanese schools and Japanese language supplementary schools near the company's overseas business sites. In Portugal, NISSAN IBERIA, S.A. – PORTUGAL, in cooperation with local government and schools, inaugurated a picture book grand prix this year. Nissan's work to connect children with books is reaching people around the world.

The submissions period for this year's 29th Nissan Children's Storybook and Picture Book Grand Prix ended October 31. The awards ceremony to recognize winners will be held in March 2013 at the International Institute for Children's Literature at Higashi-osaka City, Osaka.
