Nissan to publish winning entries to 31st Children’s Storybook and Picture Book Grand Prix

YOKOHAMA, Japan (December 15, 2015) - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. will publish the two winning entries to the 31st Nissan Children's Storybook and Picture Book Grand Prix, which was held in 2014. Sanae Yamamoto's Tampopo no Kin-medaru (The Dandelion's Gold Medal) took first place in the storybook category and Yasuhiro Tanaka's Sekai no Hate no Mukougawa (Beyond the End of the World) won the picture book category.

The winners were selected from among 2,457 children's storybook entries and 370 picture book entries. The contest, which has launched the careers of many professional Japanese writers, is part of Nissan's commitment to enrich people's lives by making a positive contribution in the countries in which it operates.

Nissan will donate both books to approximately 3,400 libraries and 700 nurseries and kindergarten facilities near Nissan offices nationwide. Nissan is working with BL Publishing Co., Ltd on the project.

Nissan has donated more than 200,000 books since the start of its storybook program in 1984. The concept has also spread outside Japan, with Nissan Iberia SA in Portugal starting work in 2012 with its local administrations and schools to develop its own picture-book contest.

Submissions for the 32nd contest closed on October 31. Winners will be announced in early March.
