Nissan publishes winning entries of children’s book contest

YOKOHAMA, Japan (December 10, 2018) – Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. has published the two winning entries of the 34th Nissan Children's Storybook and Picture Book Grand Prix, organized by the International Institute for Children's Literature, Osaka, held last year.

The company will donate both books to about 3,500 libraries and 800 child care facilities near Nissan offices across Japan. Nissan is working with BL Publishing Co., Ltd. on the project.

Tomoko Shoji’s Buu Buu Mama (“Oink Oink Mama”) took first place in the storybook category. It’s illustrated by Yuko Harada, the winner of Nissan’s 14th Picture Book Grand Prix. Ai Wada’s Koguma no Aarii to Akai-Boushi (“A Bear Cub Named Early and the Red Hat”) won the picture book category.

The winners were chosen from 2,508 storybook entries and 485 picture book entries. The contest, open to works written in Japanese, has launched the careers of many writers and is part of Nissan's commitment to enriching people's lives by making positive contributions in the countries where the company operates.

Nissan has donated more than 230,000 books in Japan and to Japanese schools overseas since the program began in 1984.

Submissions for the 35th contest closed on Oct. 31. Nissan will reveal the winners in early March.
