Nissan sales, production and export results for September and first half of FY08

TOKYO (October 27, 2008)--Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., today announced production, sales and export figures for September and the first half of fiscal 2008.

  1. Production

    September
    Nissan's global production in September decreased 0.3% year-on-year to 316,082 units.

    Production in Japan increased 5.2% year-on-year to 119,309 units due to the new Murano launched in Japan at the end of September, Teana and Note.

    Production outside of Japan decreased 3.4% year-on-year to 196,773 units.

    In the U.S., although the new Maxima and Altima contributed to stronger sales, overall vehicle production fell 23.2% year-on-year to 47,011 units.

    In Mexico, production decreased 2.3% year-on-year to 44,517 units.

    In the U.K., the all new Qashqai+2 contributed to a growth in production of 31.7% year on year to 43,714 units.

    In Spain, production decreased 30.6% year-on-year to 12,681 units.

    Production in the General Overseas Markets (GOM) grew 7.6% year-on-year to 48,850 units due to increased demand for the Teana in China and Qashqai.

    April-September
    Nissan's global production in the first half of fiscal 2008 rose 9.6% compared to the same period last year to 1,766,985 units, marking a record six months from April to September.

    Domestic production increased 25.8% year-on-year to 649,798 units.

    Overseas production grew 2.0% year-on-year to 1,117,187 units, marking a record six months from April to September.

    In the U.S., production fell 12.6% year-on-year to 287,121 units.

    In Mexico, production increased 1.2% year-on-year to 249,742 units.

    In the U.K., production increased 20.1% year-on-year to 211,855 units.

    In Spain, production fell 17.1% year-on-year to 87,571 units.

    Production in the GOM region grew 18.3% year-on-year to 280,898 units.

  2. Sales

    September
    Global sales decreased 9.4% to 313,409 units compared to the previous year.

    In Japan, Nissan's vehicle registrations in September decreased 11.3% year-on-year to 53,284 units despite increased demand for the Teana launched in June and Tiida. Nissan's share of the domestic market registrations in September was down 1.2 percentage points year-on-year to 17.1%.

    Domestic sales of mini-vehicles were up 3.6% year-on-year to 14,512 units.

    Including mini-vehicles, Nissan sold 67,796 units in Japan, down 8.5% year-on-year. Market share was down 0.6 percentage points year-on-year to 14.2%.

    Nissan sales in the U.S. decreased 36.8% year-on-year to 59,565 units.

    In Europe, sales decreased 5.5% year-on-year to 59,359 units.

    Sales in the GOM regions were up 13.1% from the previous year to 102,968 units.

    April-September
    Global sales increased 4.0% year-on-year to 1,890,633 units.

    Nissan's market share of registrations in Japan decreased 5.3% year-on-year to 252,112 units. It's share of the domestic market registrations was down 0.5 percentage points from the previous year to 16.3%.

    Domestic sales of mini-vehicles were down 0.3% year-on-year to 65,696 units.

    Including mini-vehicles, Nissan sold 317,808 units in Japan, down 4.3% year-on-year. Market share was down 0.3 percentage points year-on-year to 13.1%.

    Sales in the U.S. decreased 3.4% year-on-year to 515,953 units.

    In Europe, sales increased 0.7% year-on-year to 305,809 units.

    Sales in the GOM regions were up 17.9% from the previous year to 600,415 units.

  3. Japan Exports

    September
    Nissan's exports in September grew 10.8% year-on-year to 70,678 units.

    Exports to North America increased 1.4% year-on-year to 28,284 units.

    Exports to Europe increased 34.1% year-on-year to 8,427 units due to strong demand for X-TRAIL and Teana in Russia.

    Exports to other regions increased 14.6% year-on-year to 33,967 units.

    April-September
    Nissan's exports increased 45.4% year-on-year to 400,457 units.

    Exports to North America increased 63.7% year-on-year to 157,038 units.

    Exports to Europe increased 39.2% year-on-year to 59,363 units.

    Exports to other regions increased 34.5% year-on-year to 184,056 units.
