SUPER GT 2011 Round 8 Preview

The eighth round of SUPER GT, the MOTEGI GT250km RACE, takes place over two days on October 15th and 16th at Twin Ring Motegi, located in the town of Motegi, Tochigi prefecture, near the border with Ibaraki.

It is the final race of this year's Autobacs SUPER GT Series. The venue, Twin Ring Motegi, first held a series race back in 1998, and has been the venue for the final round of the season since 2009, making it a location where many famous SUPER GT races have taken place.

Once again this year, the series title will be decided at Motegi. Leading the points going into this final round is the #46 S Road MOLA GT-R. Following 16 points behind is the #23 MOTUL AUTECH GT-R. Since there is no longer any chance for a champion to come from third place or lower, this season's SUPER GT title will be decided between these two GT-Rs.

An important characteristic of SUPER GT is that it employs weight penalties for the faster cars, preventing one machine from running away with the races, and fostering tough competition. However, in accordance with the Sporting Regulations, all weight restrictions will be removed for this final race, and all cars will therefore race unhindered. In other words, it will be a battle illustrating the true abilities of each car. So the #23 GT-R will be aiming for a 16-point come-from-behind result for it to take the championship, while the #46 GT-R will be looking to escape to the finish. Both cars will be running equally without handicaps in a final battle to decide the title winners. Which GT-R will hold the honour of champion? Don't miss this fierce title battle between these two GT-Rs.

Also, although the chance of a come-from-behind title has disappeared, or perhaps just because of that, the feelings that these rivals carry into the race are extremely strong. The only chances to race under equal conditions are the first and last races of the season. The LEXUS entrants have shown signs of recovery in the later stages of the season, while the HONDA contingent consider Motegi to be their home track. They, and all the other teams will be eagerly fighting for victory in this final race, making the outcome of this event extremely interesting, without even taking the title battle into account. Be sure to pay attention to other two GT-Rs; the #12 GT-R, looking for a second win this season, and the #24 GT-R, looking for a first win !
