This is the second running of the Fuji Sprint Cup, an event that features the two greatest series in the Japanese motorsport world; SUPER GT and Formula Nippon, racing in the same event. It's billed as a special post-season round for both series. While the SUPER GT contenders have been fighting a semi-endurance calendar with races typically between 250 and 500kms and a mandatory driver switch, each of this weekend's events is 100kms and will be contested by a single driver, running either on the Saturday or Sunday. In addition, each race will adopt a standing start, in contrast to the usual rolling starts for which SUPER GT is known. Also, the GT500 and GT300 classes will run separately, unlike in the regular season races where both classes compete together.

The NISSAN GT-R, which took back the title after dominating this season with five victories from eight rounds, will be hoping for an ideal finale by winning this special round. 2011 season champions, the #46 S Road MOLA GT-R are equally fired up about winning in this post-season bash, while the #12 Calsonic IMPUL GT-R and #24 ADVAN KONDO GT-R will also be gunning for further success.

Without doubt, their rivals feel strongly about scoring wins at the end-of-year event, and will be even more determined having not won the title. The Lexus entries, which dominated this event last year, witnessed an upturn in form in the latter part of the season after a slump early on. Moreover, with Fuji Speedway being Lexus' home track, their fighting spirit should be at an all-time high. The Honda entries are also formidable adversaries. In the past, it was mooted that Fuji didn't suit the HSVs, though their overtaking the Lexus on the straight at last year's event is still fresh in the memory. Let's see who will be crowned with final glory from this fiercely contested season!
